How To Tell When It’s Time to Replace Your Boiler

Signs Your Boiler Needs to Be Replaced

No matter the weather outside, all homeowners rely on their boiler for
hot water inside whether it’s for a shower, laundry, cooking or
other purposes. While your home may have a quality boiler, there will
come a time in which it needs to be replaced. There are several signs
in particular which indicate that it may be time to replace your boiler.

Your Boiler is Older and Less Efficient

One of the most common signs that you need to replace your boiler is if
it is less efficient than it was in the past. If you notice that your
boiler is taking longer to heat up, or if your energy bills in the winter
are much higher than the prior year, it could be an indication that your
boiler is in trouble. While it may continue to last a bit longer, these
issues will keep getting worse until you have it replaced.

Leaking Water

Another sign that your boiler is nearing the end of its lifespan is leaking
water near the unit. When a boiler is leaking water, it means that a seal
or valve has cracked and needs to be replaced. While these can typically
be repaired, damage caused by the leak can be significant and may require
extensive repairs. Further, once one valve cracks, the rest are bound
to soon. Due to this, it is usually a good idea to replace the boiler.

No Replacement Parts

In general, you should expect that your boiler will last between 15 and
20 years, depending on the model and where you live. At that time, you
are bound to need repairs. However, the technology and design of boilers
continue to change. Eventually, you may not be able to find parts that
are necessary to repair your boiler. If this occurs, your only option
may be to replace it entirely.
