Garbage Disposal Services In Northern Virginia & Beyond

Our Manassas-Based Plumbers Keep Your Sink Clean & Clear!

A garbage disposal acts as a food trap in order to protect your pipes from clogs. When a garbage disposal is working properly, it grinds food into fine particles so it can be safely washed down the pipes. As long as you're careful about what goes down the disposal, your unit should protect your drains for many years.

A change in the noise your disposal makes usually signifies a problem in the unit. If your disposal seems to be having difficulty grinding food in your drain, ask our Manassas-based plumbing team to have a look. The sooner you have it serviced, the more likely we'll be able to contain the damage.

How to Avoid Garbage Disposal Problems

A garbage disposal is an important mechanism and it’s equally important that you take proper care of it in order to ensure that it doesn’t experience any issues.

To keep your disposal running smoothly:

  • Don't pour grease, cooking oil, or animal fat down the drain. It solidifies and blocks the blades when they try to spin.
  • Keep utensils out of the disposal side of the sink (they can get trapped in the blades and damage your disposal).
  • Run cold water when the disposal is on. This hardens food and helps the disposal more easily chop it up.
  • Drop citrus fruits down the drain while the disposal is running to clean it out and keep it smelling fresh.
  • Avoid dropping food peelings—such as potatoes or carrots—down the disposal, as they're hard on your unit.

Help! My Disposal Stopped Working!

First, unplug the unit to prevent injury. Then, check your circuit breaker box. Sometimes the garbage disposal pulls too much energy and flips a circuit. In this case, simply flip it back on to get your disposal running again. Before you flip the breaker, make sure the drain is clear and your hands are well away, in case the disposal jumps back to life. If the unit hasn't tripped a breaker, check the underside of the round black device (called the "shredder housing"). Depress the red reset button found on the bottom of the unit.

  • Best plumber I've had

“I randomly called "MyPlumber" on 4/20/18 because we are reconstructing after a major disaster flood on 1/2/18. We were having trouble with water pressure and a very slow draining shower. Richard Mapp came out that same day, was extremely knowledgable, and was able to fix both problems! He also looked at our water heater to make sure it wasn't too old. Well, it's not yet too old, but when it is, ONLY MY PLUMBER AND RICHARD MAPP will replace it. He was so nice and so friendly, we'll never use any other plumber again. You now really ARE "MyPlumber." Thank you and PLEASE THANK RICHARD FOR US!! Sincerely, Cathy Winsor and Yvonne Deutschman”

  • Well pleased

“Garfield, Derek and crew did a splendid job of removing and replacing our Furnace and Airconditioning system. They arrived early in the AM and worked throughout the day with out a break to insure completion of the job and not leave us without a working system. They were very thorough, proficient and friendly - offering suggestions and explaining the new system's features and procedures. We are very pleased with the installation and the support we received.”
