Which Type of Water Heater Is Right for You?

If you are in the market for a new water heater, there are two types to consider: a traditional tank model or a tankless water heater. A storage tank model stores hot water in a tank until it is needed, while a tankless version heats water upon demand.

There are many benefits to using a tankless water heater. Some of these advantages include:

  • Cost Savings – Annual energy costs are going through the roof. Many families are paying hundreds of dollars every month to fill their cars with gas. Electricity is no different. Even homes fueled by natural gas have seen increases in annual expenditures. Because tankless water heaters don’t have to keep 50 gallons (or 70 or 100!) of water hot all the time, they are much more efficient. The typical annual cost savings is around $100 and much more for larger families.
  • Tankless Water Heaters Make Lots of Hot Water – Even with a larger 75-gallon tank, a traditional water heater will still run out of hot water relatively quickly. Try filling a bathtub for a little one while running the dishwasher and then taking a shower. You’ll be cold fast! With a tankless water heater, there is no limit to the supply of hot water.

That being said, there are two main drawbacks to the tankless systems. The primary drawback is the upfront cost. There is no doubt that tankless systems are more expensive to buy and to install than traditional tank systems. The second issue is that you need natural gas running to your house. Beyond that, you can’t beat the tankless water heater for efficiency or for its usability. It wins every time.

Water Heater Replacement Sizes

Depending on the size of your home and family, you may require a small or large unit. Typically, two people will only need a model that holds 30-40 gallons, a family of four will require a 40-50 gallon version, and more than five people will need a 50-80 gallon unit. The size of your storage area also plays a role in the size and type that will work best for your home.

Whether it is a new tankless water heater or a traditional style, we can repair and install any type of water heater. • Called on Saturday. Fixed on Saturday.

“Jermane (spelling?) showed up, was friendly and quickly inspired confidence and trust. He showed me what he thought the problem was and then got my approval. It seems he solved the problem. I’m happy with the response and the work. My Plumber will be my first call if I have another requirement.”

  • “Cory came and saved us in an emergency flash freeze! When the temperature dropped to 14 degrees outside, our furnace's motor failed. Cory was able to find a motor to match our furnace nearby, and returned within the same afternoon to install and get our heat working again. Would definitely recommend !”

  • Best plumber I've had

“I randomly called "MyPlumber" on 4/20/18 because we are reconstructing after a major disaster flood on 1/2/18. We were having trouble with water pressure and a very slow draining shower. Richard Mapp came out that same day, was extremely knowledgable, and was able to fix both problems! He also looked at our water heater to make sure it wasn't too old. Well, it's not yet too old, but when it is, ONLY MY PLUMBER AND RICHARD MAPP will replace it. He was so nice and so friendly, we'll never use any other plumber again. You now really ARE "MyPlumber." Thank you and PLEASE THANK RICHARD FOR US!! Sincerely, Cathy Winsor and Yvonne Deutschman”

  • He was even nice enough to give alternate options for completing the work.

“My plumber, John, was great! He came in, assessed the situation, and went to work. He was even nice enough to give alternate options for completing the work. I truly appreciate his professionalism, kindness, and honesty with this home repair. I will definitely call my plumber again AND I will request John for service (hopefully he’ll be available 😁).”
